Happy Halloween!
We want to make sure your teeth are ready for the candy treats and even the tricks! Here are just a few ways to keep your smile healthy while still enjoying the sweet holiday.
Make Sure To Brush And Floss Regularly While Eating Candy
You should brush at least twice a day for 2 minutes and floss once per day. Make sure you keep up with this routine during Halloween. You might want to ramp up your brushing to at least 3x a day or after every sweet session while enjoying your Halloween candy! This helps reduce plaque and sugar buildup from your teeth.
Eat Your Candy In Periods
Eating a larger volume of candy in a short period is better for your teeth than spreading out your snacking over a few days or weeks.
If you eat a large amount at once, just brush afterward to remove the sugar from your teeth. If you snack on your candy during the day, the sugar will cause build-up on your smile, and cavity-causing bacteria will remain in your mouth for an extended period. Enjoying your candy in moderation is better for your smile!
Choose Chocolate Over Sweets
Chocolate lovers, you’re in luck! When trick or treating, try to pick chocolate candy rather than gummy or other sweets. The amount of time sugar is present in your mouth is important – the longer it sticks around, the more damage it will do. Sticky treats like gummy bears and other chewy sweets are more difficult for your saliva to wash away than softer options like chocolate.
Drink Plenty Of Water Between Rounds Of Candy
Make sure you and your family drink plenty of water while snacking on their Halloween treats. Drinking water is one of the easiest and most beneficial things a person can do to help prevent tooth decay.
Enjoy Your Candy!
Halloween is all about enjoying tasty sweet, but maybe not their whole trick-or-treat loot in one sitting. Break out your kiddo’s candy into small amounts to be enjoyed after meals or as an evening treat.
We love our sweets here at MyDDSOffice just as much as you do! That is why we want to make sure you know how to prevent tricks while enjoying your treats this Halloween season!
